The world has changed and decided that intelligent watches became more usefull and cheaper and go with any kind of outfit no matter if casual or formal.with this swatch x omega the trend is still a money saver and the world acknowleged that plus it brings somehow back trend of using regular dial faced watches plus some color is the first great market merging of all this kind of collaboration among worldwide monsters trend in the watch industry.
Swatch x omega is a huge hit against recent apple watch and follower stream which at this time has the grasp on the watch industry world wide and so far it seems unstopable at the moment. What a crazy time it was that one… I save only the rock music from that era… Swatches were a strong part of that thing, being those an emblem of plastic, edonist life and consumerism: girls were using smaller ones or the big “pop Swatch”, boys were collecting the 35mm ones (with money from their parents) and it was REALLY a big thing here, together with a watch named “Winchester” (check it out on Google) that was sold to a current equivalent of 500€ and was a terrible (super cheap movement) hand-wind piece made to look like a vintage “old wild west” watch. Sons of the bizarre “yuppie” times, refusing everything was connected to the social battles of the 60s and the terrorist times (“lead years” in Italy) of the 70s. I remember that phenomenon, back then I was 12/13yo and here in northern Italy there was a thing called “paninari” (literally “hamburger eaters”): teenagers that were distinguishing themselves just by the fact they were wearing (very) expensive clothes, refused any involvement in social or political discussions and listened to Duran Duran pop music.
